“TRAVEL TO GUATEMALA THIS SUMMER”
Guatemala Pilgrimage: Land of the Mayan People.
This August 19-29, travel with teens, adults, seniors, singles, and couples from Calgary and beyond. Embark on a journey to a country of beauty and struggle. We’ll discover the Highlands of Guatemala, at 5000 feet elevation where the sub-tropical climate will be temperate (not hot). We’ll meet inspiring Guatemalans in their homes and learn how culture is lived out with family as the centre. We’ll learn about Mayan traditions and spirituality, see beautiful places in nature: a nature reserve, an organic farm, rolling green hills growing corn, beans and squash, and spend a day with the children at the school in a small Mayan community. We’ll visit with weavers watching their techniques, see the wonder of the colour in the markets, visit an ancient Mayan site, drink coffee or hot chocolate under a volcano, wander the market in Chichicastenango, and soak in a volcanic hot spring. We’ll learn about the history of Guatemala, and visit projects working to better society and address basic human needs. Build community while travelling, visiting some of the most beautiful places in the world.
World Pilgrim uses a portion of participant’s fees to provide financial assistance to small grass roots projects that normally would not receive funding from other sources. See their projects section for more information. www.worldpilgrim.ca and reach out to Rev. Nancy Nourse at nancy@northminster.ca with more information about registration. Registration deadline is June 1, 2023.
Leadership: Julio Cochoy, Doris Kizinna, Eduardo Elias and Rev. Nancy Nourse – a partnership with World Pilgrim and Northminster United Church. We are looking forward to sharing more about this beautiful country and culture with you.
