From Rev. Nancy Nourse

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.  If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

There are many opportunities in the life of our church to feel a deep gratitude for the diverse gifts that people bring. Without you all, we would not have a representation of voices at board meetings and new insights at bible studies. Without you, people would not know companionship and support in difficult times, and our church would suffer without the varied skills that many hands bring to the care of the building and each other. We rejoice with friendship. We are strengthened by this community. Our faith and our lives are renewed by the warmth of each other – in ways we could never experience alone. This community of faith is something to deeply value.

Many of the people who met Jesus were invited by a friend. One person brought another. Names were shared. Perhaps a hug or a hand shake was offered as a gesture of peace. And bonds were made and community was formed. Many of the people at Northminster are here because someone invited them to come. And there is much we do together as the Body of Christ. The value of relationships is where it is all centred. Strength in numbers. Two are better than one.

Thanks to all of you who were able to participate in the photo directory this September. It will serve as an important tool – allowing us to connect names with faces, and easing the way we can reach out to one another. It will be a means of introduction. It will be a tool we use to continue to build community. And it captures a moment in history – of who we are in this time and place.

I am thankful for you all – of the many ways you share of yourselves with Northminster United Church. We are stronger because of your presence. And I am grateful for the memories our new directory will hold.
